Grandpa Ante remembers keeping bees as a child with his uncle Jure in his native Lisice.
He says they used horses to transport the hives all the way from Vid near Metković to Kupres.
In 1959, the family left the hardship of Herzegovina and settled in Nuštar.
Part of the family devoted themselves to farming, while Grandpa Ante went on to study mathematics in Osijek and became a teacher at the Vinkovci Gymnasium.
He kept bees alongside his regular job.
Nektar Nuštar
After the war, and following his discharge from the army in 1995, he opened the beekeeping business Nektar.
Tada u posao ulazi cijela obitelj – supruga Iva te sinovi Miroslav (1972.) i Ivan (1981.)
The Nektar business grew — we increased the number of hives, moved our bees to an ever-wider range of nectar flows, and specialized in products for hotels, restaurants, and cafés.
In 2005, we moved our headquarters and bottling facility from Nuštar to Zagreb…
Today, in 2026, Grandpa and Grandma in Nuštar still keep bees and help out as much as they can.
